Great post, Beth. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I don't have a Facebook or Twitter habit. My downfall is Reader. I subscribe to so many blogs, it's easy for me to spend hours reading instead of doing something productive. I might just try this myself. (The thought of not having anything to read for a week is sobering, to say the least!)
My recent post YOU would make a GREAT before picture!

Beth - I enjoyed this post very much. I love the connection to using social media for approval and in being an entrepreneur where we don't get much approval daily at all.

I do think that the diet we have ourselves on of social media can take up more time than we think. I have been trying to keep to a schedule but find myself peeking in more often than I should.
It was a great article Beth, it made me think, and that is always a very good thing.

Thanks

Beth,

I will stick my neck out along with yours. I, too, sometimes (hmmmm...most of the time) refresh the page to see if anybody commented or "liked" my posts.

Yikes.

But it's true.

Thank you for sharing that - it would have been really easy for you to skip it, and I'm so glad you didn't. I hope when I have my blog I will be brave enough to share these kinds of truths. :)

As a social media lover, your post hit home for me. Facebook, Twitter, blogging and all manner of online connections serve a real need in our businesses and lives, yet too much and - Bam! Kapow! And other Batman sayings! Stuff goes awry and out of balance, big time. Love that you went on a "diet" and am with you on the journey of growing awareness around social media. Congrats to you, Beth!
My recent post 3 tips for business success – while walking!

Hi Beth. It's true that moderation is key. When I first started out in social media, I'd spend many 8 hour days infront of the computer. Now, I purposely take a break, often. I even leave my cell phone at home a couple days a week. It's amazing how much time is freed up, and it allows me to be in the moment with whatever I'm doing. I've even lost 3 pounds just by stepping away from the computer more often, and living life in the real world for days at a time. Imagine!

How True Beth! Social media, water, anything in excess is bad and as a solopreneur little things like the 'like' or @replies tend to mean more than they should.

I commend you for being willing to go on the 'diet' and learning a new approach to handling it. Congrats!

And yes I have done it and it is amazing how freeing it is at first, then just like you said, a bit of panic sets in. If you stick with it even that goes away because (like you said) if it is that important, people will make sure you know the information!

Hope all is well!
